Guide to Engagement Ring Metal Types

Guide to Engagement Ring Metals

Choosing the right metal for an engagement ring is essential for achieving the right tone and appearance of your dream piece. With so many options available, making a decision on the metal can be overwhelming. Not to worry, as our expert guide will help you discover the engagement ring metal is right for you.

White Gold

Popular in recent years, white gold enhances the brilliance of a diamond, giving a dazzling display that will mesmerize the viewer. Due to white gold’s clean, sparkling finish, it complements a near-colorless diamond to create a seamless silhouette. A benefit of this type of metal is that because it blends in so well with the center stone, it can create the illusion that the diamond is larger.

Yellow Gold

Yellow gold has been used for centuries as a classic metal for engagement rings. Its warm tones contrast beautifully with the brightness of the diamond, creating a stunning display that amplifies the light-refracted rainbows that the stone radiates. Yellow gold works well with any style; a brief look at top designers’ collections shows that it is used in everything from vintage to contemporary. Yellow gold is the ideal choice for brides that desire something timeless and regal.

Rose Gold

Rose gold has seen a surge in popularity in modern times, with many women falling in love with its pinkish hue. The way that this precious metal gets its soft, warm color is by combining gold and copper. This has the added benefit of making it stronger than other gold blends and therefore rose gold can withstand everyday wear. It is romantic and feminine, often being paired with floral and vintage designs.

Platinum

Platinum is one of the rarest, most sought-after materials in the world. Modern brides love this luxurious metal because of its white luster and durability. Platinum is much strong than gold and is hypoallergenic. This exclusive metal pairs wonderfully with the brilliance of a white diamond, creating a stunning display that will dazzle the viewer. While it is more expensive, its longevity and beautiful qualities justify its cost.

Mixed Metal

Mixed metal engagement rings are a modern option for brides that want a unique ring. Recently, mixed metal bands with subtle contrasting metals, such as white gold and rose gold, have risen in popularity due to their soft, feminine appeal. While mixed metal rings have become more well-known in recent years, it is still not very common to see them in designers’ collections, making them one of the most one-of-a-kind styles available.
